The following series of photos was taken in April, 2005 of our percentage Boer doe Wisdom giving birth to the first of twins.

456pm: Early stage of labor.

Wisdom keeps backing into the corner and doesn't want to be near other goats. A clean towel is waiting to help clean up the kids.

751pm: At this point mucus is streaming.

809pm: Another view of the mucus streaming and the white bit visible in the birth canal is the baby's hoof.

823pm: The doe is down in order to push better and the hoof is further out. The bottom of the hoof is pointing down, so you know at this point that it is a front-feet first presentation.

837pm: The baby is born. Some blood is normal from the birth process and snapping of the umbilical cord. The doe is already working to clean and dry her little boy.

842pm: The doe has the kid almost dry already. Make sure your does have fresh water because licking the kids is thirsty work. Some does really like very warm water just after kidding. You can also try adding molasses to the water.

A few days later: Wisdom out in the sunshine with her two kids. The one born in the pictures is the little buck in the middle of the picture. Her second baby born the next morning is the little paint doe, Savvy, to the left.
